Mayor urges help
for flood victims

BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

Mayor Monico Puentevella yesterday said the City of Bacolod will give a little assistance to the victims of the devastating floods in Manila, especially its sister cities, particularly Marikina that was badly hit, he said.

Puentevella said he will call for a meeting today and ask their finance officials and Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue to attend. He is also asking the Sangguniang Panlungsod members to pass legislation so the city can allocate funds for the purpose, he added.

In an earlier interview Puentevella said that he is also planning to hold a campaign to raise funds for other affected cities through the Metro Manila Development Authority.

He said, we will ask all businessmen of Bacolod to help.

Bacolod Bishop Vicente Navarra, had earlier called on Negrenses to pray for the safety of those hit by floods in Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon, and also to share whatever they can to aid the victims.

Fr. Ernie Larida, Diocese of Bacolod Social Action Center director, said donations for the flood victims can be made at his office at the Bishop’s House in Bacolod City.

He said food and cash are preferred donations. They will give receipts to those who make cash donations, he added.*CGS
