Pork fight in Negros festive

About 2,000 Negrenses gathered in front of the provincial Capitol building in Bacolod yesterday to call for the abolition of the pork barrel fund and the punishment of lawmakers and their accomplices who plundered taxpayers money.

The participants, who came from a cross section of society from lawyers, doctors, businessmen, drivers, students, housewives, members of civil society, non-government organizations, and militant groups, vented their anger by chanting “ibasura ang pork barrel”.

They also sang “Bayan Ko” with clenched fists, carried placards that said “abolish pork, prosecute all guilty parties”, and danced to a song about greedy thieves and crocodiles in government.moremoremore

In his speech during rites commemorating the National Heroes Day at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City, the President said he will ensure that misuse of the PDAF will never happen again.

He called on all Filipinos to join government efforts to implement stricter measures in the disbursement of the fund to further prevent others from being tempted to use it for personal gain..moremoremore

used NGOs recently

Rep. Julio Ledesma IV (Neg. Occ., 1 st District) and former Bacolod Rep. Anthony Golez could not be reached for comment on new reports they channeled their pork barrel funds from 2010 and 2012 through non-government organizations.

The Coprahan at Gulayan Foundation Inc. reportedly received P1.26 million from Golez, and the Kabuhayan at Kalusugan Alay sa Masa Foundation Inc. received P1.35 million from Ledesma.

Earlier, Ledesma, former Rep. Jose Carlos Lacson (3 rd District) and the late Rep. Ignacio Arroyo (5 th District) were also tagged in a Commission on Audit special report covering 2007 to 2009, for allegedly using questionable NGOs for the release of their Priority Development Assistance Fund, or pork barrel funds, for various projects.moremoremore
