‘Alferez group members
not monitored in Bacolod'
Senior Supt. Edgardo Ordaniel, acting Bacolod police director, yesterday told the DAILY STAR that they have not monitored any member of the Alferez robbery/hold-up gang in the city.
The members of this Mindanao-based organized crime group had been eyed by the police as suspects in a daytime heist of a pawnshop in Dumaguete City, where P5-million worth of jewelry was taken, at about 9 a.m. Saturday.
Ordaniel said the intelligence branch of the BCPO is always on alert for any unusual activities in the city and is maximizing police visibility to prevent incidents like what happened in Dumaguete.
The Dumaguete police said that at least nine men, armed with high and short firearms, grabbed the shotgun of the security guard of the Agencia Belen pawnshop at Perdices Street in Dumaguete, declared a hold-up, and took jewelry from the shop.
The suspects fled on motorcycles, a black Toyota Revo and possibly a white van, the city police investigator said.
One of the suspects, Jesuslou Elcarte Alegria, 42, of Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur, was nabbed in an abandoned house in Tubtubon, Sibulan town in a follow-up operation and several pieces of jewelry were recovered from him.
The Sibulan police also recovered several firearms, numerous ammunition, documents, and some items from the black Toyota Revo, with plate number VHE 793, believed to have been abandoned by some of the suspects who escaped.*SGG
