Tay Tung blows away SJI
in Milo Passerelle elims

The Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts caught off guard St. John's Institute with a 107-57 blowout Saturday in the provincial eliminations of Milo BEST Passerelle Division at Po Hang gym in Bacolod City.

The BTTHS young cagers rode high on the 32-point game-high performance of prolific scorer Samjosef Belangel, who is considered one of the best young dribblers of his age.

Belangel orchestrated the first quarter explosion from the Tay Tung side as he delivered 20 points in the first quarter, single-handedly outscoring the entire SJI lineup, who managed to put in 10 points against the Thunderbolts' 32 points in the opening minutes.

Backing up Belangel were Jester Sangco and Jose Maria Palacios, who combined for 25 points in the second quarter for a 62-27 halftime score.

SJI simply failed to match up well with BTTHS and could not keep pace with the latter's game as John Vergara joined the scoring spree with 12 points in the third quarter for an 80-40 blowout.

It was a complete reversal of role between the two squads as BTTHS Thunderbolts, now mentored by Tata Belangel, used to be the whipping boys of the Ritchie Militanted-coached SJI Falcons in the previous stagings of the Passerelle.*NAB
