Colt 45, Summit prevail as
Fil-Sino cagefest starts

Colt 45 outlasted Creamy Delight Pasteurized Yogurt, 84-79, and Summit Mineral Water defeated Tanduay Black, 78-65, as the Fil-Sino Asia Brewery Inc. Inter-Color Basketball Tournament opened August 23 at the Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

Emerging from a 21-all first quarter standoff, Colt 45 held their ground in the next three quarters even as Bol Manaloto and Kenderson Hao combined for 15 points in the opening minutes for Yogurt and Chibon Uy keeping Colt in the game with 8 points.

Colt finally gained momentum in the latter part of the second quarter as Robbie Jalando-on fired 13 points for a 45-36 lead at the break.

Sensing that Colt 45 is prime for a breakaway, RB Chua drilled in fourth straight triple to cut the deficit to 64-60 by the end of the third quarter.

Creamy Yogurt was able to force a deadlock with Colt 45 late in the payoff quarter as Chua combined with Ralph Ong for 13 fourth quarter points, but Colt 45 countered with a triple coming from Luigi Coo and two free throws by Jalando-on seal the opening day victory for Colt 45.

Jalando-on paced Colt 45 with 17 points, Chibon Uy added 16, Edward Uy shot 10, Marc Lo and Coo hit 9 points each, and top pick Derek Sibug debuted with 7 points.

Chua led Creamy Yogurt with 23 points while Raul Javelosa and Kenderson Hao contributed 10 points apiece. Bol Manaloto finished with 9 points and Ralph Ong tallied 8 points.

In the second game, Summit built a 42-32 lead at halftime as Ritchie Militante scored 9 points and Vincent Tan and Dr. Emil Guanzon fired 8 points apiece. Johnnyson Yu made 13 points for Tanduay and Badong Eufre added 7 points.

Charlton Ong spearheaded the Tanduay comeback in the third quarter as his exploits cut down the lead to five points at 54-49 going into the payoff period.

Tanduay's rally, however, was short-lived as Militante powered himself in the shaded area and Vincent Tan benefited from fastbreak assist to combine for 14 points and register a double digit lead for Summit.

Johnnyson Yu tried to keep Tanduay in the game with 8 points in the fourth quarter but lack of scoring support from his teammates allowed Summit to dictate the tempo and seal the win.

Vincent Tan paced Summit with 18 backstopped by Militante with 15 points, Emil Guanzon finished with 14, and Johann Villanueva with 6 points.

Tanduay was led by Yu with 24 points while Charlton Ong tallied 14 points.

Four teams are scheduled to debut in tonight's schedule – Asahi Super Dry, Absolute Water, Cobra Energy Drink and Tanduay Ice. The tournament adopts a single round robin elimination form with the top two teams advancing to the semifinals while teams 3 to 6 will advance to the quarterfinals for knockout matches.*NAB
