The Department of Science and Technology in Negros Occidental has received 469 applicants since Friday for its undergraduate scholarship programs for students with high aptitudes in science and mathematics.
DOST Provincial Director Francis Alan Daraug said today is the last day for the application of those who wish to avail of the scholarship grant, while the qualifying examination is slated on September 22.
The examination venues are at the Technological University of the Philippines-Visayas in Talisay City for residents of the 3rd, 4th and Bacolod lone districts, Esteban R. Abada Memorial School in Kabankalan City for residents of the 5th and 6th districts, and at the Puey Elementary School in Sagay City for applicants coming from the 1st and 2nd districts.
Qualified applicants with a gross family annual income below P156,600, will receive P8,000 in tuition and school fees P5,000 book allowance annually, P5,000 monthly living allowance, P1,500 summer allowance and P1,000 post-graduation clothing allowance while those whose family annual income is above P153,600 will also receive the same grants, but their monthly living allowance will be given partially
Among the courses the qualified scholars can enroll in at accredited schools are agriculture, applied mathematics, applied physics, biochemistry, biology, engineering, environmental science, fisheries, food technology, forestry, geology and mathematics teaching.*APN
