Fifteen long-time academic faculty, staff and general services workers of Silliman University, dubbed the 2013 Silliman Heritage Builders honorees, were honored in celebration of the 112 th Founding Anniversary at the historic and centuries-old Silliman Hall in Dumaguete City yesterday.
They are Democrito Abbot food services for 38 years; Estanislao Alviola Jr., coordinator of the General Services Office, 36 years; Macario Banagodos, maintenance services staff of Larena Hall, 38 years; Montserrat Dato, associate law professor for 40 years; Cristina Decenteco, associate education professor, 29 years; Zoe Lopez, music and fine arts instructor, 47 years; Narciso Majarocon, associate professor for business administration, 44 years;
Apolonio and Maura Molina, registrar pioneer and Bible teachers for 27 years; Lope Navarrete, mathematics instructor, 40 years; Felisa Orcia, matron of the then Nurses Home; Lorenzo Pa-a, maintenance staff of the SU Church, 39 years; Teodorico Reyes, SU legal counsel, 39 years; and Louis and Mary Winternheimer, chemistry pioneer, acting president and dean of students, respectively, for 24 years.
SU president Ben Malayang III, who led school officials, faculty, staff, visiting alumni and guests to the conferment rites, said the event honors and acknowledges the missionaries, administrators, faculty and staff members who have served the university for more than 20 years and demonstrated faithful and dedicated service to the 112-year institution of higher learning.
Founded on the university's credo “Via, Veritas, Vita (the Way, the Truth and the Life), the names of this year's awardees have been inscribed in the bronze plates at the Heritage Builders “Wall of Fame” fronting the Silliman Hall.
