IN P7-M PAWNSHOP ROBBERY
Charges for robbery with violence and intimidation of persons were filed yesterday against Jesuslou Elcarte Alegria, alias “Loki”, and eight John Does for taking more than P7 million worth of jewelry from Agencia Belen pawnshop and jewelry store at Perdices Street in Dumaguete City Saturday.
The police said that the suspects, armed with high-powered guns, successfully staged the heist. However, Police Officer 1 Albert Jucom, a member of the Dumaguete Police Special Weapons and Tactics Team, then in civilian clothes, chanced upon them in Brgy. Tinago, Dumaguete, while they were escaping and tailed them up to Sibulan town, after sending the alarm to the Dumaguete City police and the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office.
The latest tally of the police yesterday said they recovered from Alegria bracelets worth P832,505, pendants - P564,820, chains - P379,030, pairs of earrings - P1,976,920, rings P1,447,575, and wedding rings worth P1,887,160, or a total of P7,088,010, and the shotgun of pawnshop guard Juan Ortega.
