A suspected big-time illegal drugs personality in Negros Oriental was arrested in a buy-bust operation near the City Central Elementary School in Barangay Poblacion 3, Dumaguete City, at about 4:45 p.m. Monday.
Police identified the suspect as Rey Bilandres “alias Poloy”, 32, of Purok Orchids, Sitio Canday-ong in Calindagan, one of the five barangays of Dumaguete that the local PNP has tagged as seriously affected by illegal drugs.
Two large plastic sachets of suspected shabu, with an estimated street price of P50,000, a Honda Wave 100 motorcycle, a cell phone, and the P500 marked bill placed on top of paper strips used as bogus money, were seized from Bilandres, by joint operatives of the Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group, National Bureau of Investigation, Dumaguete police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
The inventory of the items recovered from the suspect was witnessed by Department of Justice representative Anthony Benlot, and Barangay 3 kagawad Walden Justalero.
Bilandres denied ownership and possession of the illegal drugs. He said he was at the school to fetch his child, when unidentified persons approached and invited him to the NBI office behind the provincial Capitol building and only found out later that he was already accused of selling drugs.
He urged parents who had seen him near the school to testify for him that no buy-bust operation had happened in the area.
PAID-SOTG operatives said Bilandres is included in the list of suspected drug personalities in Dumaguete, and has been subjected to surveillance operations before the drug bust was planned.
Charges for violation of Section 5 of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, are being readied for filing against the suspect, the police said.*JG/JFP
