‘Dismissal of raps
best gift of my life’

A Negrense, whose case involving the illegal sale of shabu was dismissed yesterday after spending 10 years in jail, said it was the best Christmas gift of his life.

Charges for violation of Section 5, Article 2, of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, filed against Romi Saavedra Maquiling and pending before Regional Trial Court of Negros Occidental Branch 47, were dismissed yesterday.

The police had arrested Maquiling from his rented room in Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City, on April 29, 2003, for the alleged sale of shabu to a police poseur buyer.

When arraigned on Oct. 30, 2003, he pleaded not guilty.

Maquiling said that, with the dismissal of his case, he will be able to spend Christmas with his 8-year-old daughter.*CPG
