GCNO shooters win in
Far East Asia event

The winning streak in international competition continues for the Gun Club of Negros Occidental as three of its members won gold and silver medals in the Far East Asia Handgun Championship 2013 held Nov. 26-30 in Pattaya, Thailand.

Jannette Gonzaga, once again, reigned in the Lady category of the Standard division, while Tootsie Anglo placed second in the Production Senior category and was a member of the Philippine Team that settled for the silver medal in Production division.

Another GCNO member, Andy Gonzaga, was part of the Philippine Team that finished second in Open Senior category.

Nietes, Sabillo receive
incentives from mayor

World boxing champions Donnie Nietes and Merlito Sabillo received P10,000 each as cash incentive from the Bacolod City government.

Nietes, who successfully defended his World Boxing Organization light flyweight belt against Mexican challenger Sammy Gutierrez, and Sabillo, who got away with a split draw decision against Nicaraguan Carlos Buitrago, paid a courtesy call at the Bacolod Government Center yesterday.

Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella, who turned over the checks to the two boxing champions, reminded them to stay fit, take care of their health and invest their money wisely.

Lasallians triumph in
int’l tchouckball

Lasallians Gabriel Paolo Mondragon, Judel Roy Lacson, John Elray Jamelo and James Vergel Jamelo helped the Phliippine Tchoukball Team to capture the championship in the Asia Pacific University Tchoukball Tournament held in Jeju, Korea on Nov. 22-24, a press release from USLS said.

Also part of the team were Shem Kelly Palcat of University of Negros Occidental-Recoleots, Deoel John Villamor of  Colegio San Agustin Bacolod, and Renjie Oray.

Aside from host Korea and the Philippines, the tournament also drew participation from tchoukball teams representing China, Singapore, and Bangladesh.
