Only 10.2 percent of those who joined the 80th Founding Anniversary job fair of the Department of Labor and Employment at the fountain area of Robinson's Place mall in Bacolod were hired on the spot, Ma. Victoria Mondragon, provincial head of the agency, said yesterday.
Mondragon said that of the 577 participants in the job fair, 59 were hired on the spot, while 489 qualified for another round of interviews.
She said there were 14,300 vacancies offered for Negrenses at the mega job fair of DOLE, of which, 4,562 are for overseas jobs and the rest for local employment.

500K bags of rice
Negros Occidental will receive 500,000 sacks of rice in the next three months to replenish those distributed to the victims of super typhoon Yolanda in Panay, National Food Authority Provincial Manager Procopio Trabajo, said yesterday.
Trabajo said NFA allotted 700,000 bags of rice, from the 10,000,000 bags to be purchased from Vietnam to the six provinces in Western Visayas and Negros Occidental got the highest share.
He said the first 100,000 bags will be delivered to Negros Occidental within this month while an additional 200,000 will be sent to the province next month.
