Three ‘thieves’ arrested

Three suspected thieves were arrested at Araneta and Magsaysay streets in Bacolod City, when they allegedly stole the wallet of a jeepney passenger, at about 3 p.m. Friday.

Senior Insp. Ser Ulrick Christian Gelera, Station 8 chief, yesterday identified the suspects as Rommel Demi, 34, of Brgy. 16, and Jomarie Tabajunda, 18, of Brgy. Mansilingan, both in Bacolod; and Robert Figura, 30, of Brgy. Cabacungan in La Castellana, Negros Occidental.

The suspects posed as passengers and allegedly stole the wallet of Razel Timbrevilla, 48, of Brgy. Sum-ag in Bacolod, while they were on a jeepney going south of Araneta Street.

When Demi, Tabajunda and Figura alighted from the jeepney in front of the Daily Marketing in Brgy. Tangub, Bacolod, Timbrevilla discovered her bag already open, and her wallet, that contained P22,000 in cash and 1,500 in US dollars, gone, Gelera said.

Timbrevilla alighted from the jeepney and chased the suspects. The bystanders who heard her shout for help also gave chase and cornered the suspects, who were allowed to go after Tabajunda returned her wallet.

When Timbrevilla saw that $300 in cash was missing from the wallet, she again chased the suspects, who had boarded a bus.

Demi and Figura were nabbed in front of the Sugarland Hotel at Araneta Street, and Tabajunda in front of the Bacolod City Police Office at Magsaysay Street when the bus stopped there, and the missing money was recovered from him, Gelera said.

He said Demi, Tabajunda and Figura were positively identified by Timbrevilla as the ones who took her wallet, and charges for theft will be filed against them.

Meanwhile, Richard Vicera, 37, of Brgy. Tangub in Bacolod, was nabbed for allegedly robbing a man in Purok Roadside in the barangay, at about 10:20 p.m. Saturday.

Denmark Turvela, 23, of Brgy. Singcang-Airport, told the police that Vicera strangled him, pointed a bladed weapon at him, declared a hold-up, and grabbed his Nokia C3 phone, worth P15,000.*SGG
