The two fugitives of the Negros Occidental District Jail in Barangay Tabunan, Bago City, who broke out of jail Thursday, were recaptured Saturday.
Senior Insp. Jose Maria Algara, jail officer-in-charge for provincial administration, however, told the DAILY STAR yesterday, that he cannot give further details as to how and where the escapees were recaptured.
Jimmy Sablon, 35, of Hacienda Hamandri in Brgy. Robles, La Castellana in Negros Occidental, who has been facing illegal gun charges, was rearrested at about 6:30 p.m., Algara said.
Charlie Duran, 25, of Brgy. Macasilao in Calatrava town, also in the province, who was recaptured an hour after, is facing murder, direct assault and illegal possession of firearms charges, he said.
Investigation showed that Sablon and Duran, who were members of the livelihood team making Christmas lanterns to be sold outside the jail, had made an improvised ladder made of bamboo s that they used in escaping.
Sablon stood on the shoulders of Duran to reach the top of the 20-foot high perimeter fence with about 3-foot high barbed wire. When Sablon was already on the top, he pulled Duran up with the improvised bamboo ladder, Algara said.
He said Sablon and Duran rappelled down the wall, also using the ladder, before jumping and going to the rice field, at about 6:45 p.m. Thursday.
Algara said investigations are ongoing but, as of last night, they have not yet received any order from the Regional Office of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology as to what will happen to Supt. Hilbert Flor, NODJ warden.
The Regional Office has also not yet sent a memorandum ordering Flor to submit a written explanation why the inmates have escaped, he said.
More than 480 inmates are detained at the NODJ, Algara said.*SGG
