3 quakes hit
south of Negros

Three mild earthquakes hit southern Negros Occidental over the weekend but did not cause any damage, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported yesterday.

A magnitude 3.9 earthquake that was tectonic in origin, located 10.01° north, 122.26° east - 032 km north 31° west of Sipalay City hit at 9:33:18 a.m. yesterday, Phivolcs said.

It was felt at Intensity IV in Hinoba-an and Intensity III in Sipalay, in Negros Occidental and in Iloilo City, Intensity II – in Bayawan, Negros Oriental, and Pulupandan, Negros Occidental; and Intensity I in Sibulan, Negros Oriental, Phivolcs reported.

Hinobaan Mayor Ernesto Estrao said the quake was felt in his town but did not cause any damage.

A magnitude 3.2 earthquake located 09.82°N, 122.24°E - 019 km N 69° W of Sipalay also hit at 9:29:53 a.m. yesterday, Phivolcs said.

At 4:22 a.m. Saturday, a magnitude 2.6 earthquake located at 10.01°N, 122.26°E - 032 km N 31° W of Sipalay also hit, Phivolcs added.*CPG
