About 100 farmers under the National Federation of Sugarcane Workers staged a picket in front of the Social Security System compound in Bacolod City yesterday to protest what they call the slow resolution of cases they had filed against their employers for non-remittance of benefits.
Rolando Rillo, chairman of the NFSW, said the complaining farmers were from the cities of Cadiz, Silay and Victorias. They had filed their complaints in 2008 yet.
Rillo said some of the farmers claimed that their employers had not remitted their SSS contributions since 2006.
He said they are wondering why SSS failed to act on the complaints for five years now.
NFSW secretary general John Lozande met with a representative of SSS-Bacolod yesterday and said he was told that the cases filed by the farmers are still pending before the agency’s legal department.
Rillo said they want to have a dialog with SSS Bacolod branch manager Raul Casiano, but they were told that he was out of town.*APN
