Banogon wins ABC presidency

Buñao Barangay Captain Lionel Banogon won against Isagani Bana of Junob as president of the Association of Barangay Councils of Dumaguete City during the election held at the City Session Hall yesterday.

Banogon received 15 votes against Bana’s 13 in the polls witnessed by Gildo Agoncillo of the Commission on Elections Dumaguete, Felix Ablir of the local Department of Interior and Local Government, and businessman Ed Du, who represented the private/non-government sector.

Of the 30 barangay captains of Dumaguete, only Jorge Ponce de Leon of Poblacion 4 and Orlando Angot of Poblacion 1 were absent from the polls.

Drug suspect shot dead,
companion hurt: police

A suspected drug personality was killed and his companion critically injured after they were shot by two unidentified men on board a motorcycle at around 4:50 p.m. yesterday at the Bagacay Road in the city.

Supt. James Goforth, Dumaguete police chief, identified the fatality as Bret Enumeraballon, “alias Tisoy”, 21, of Purok Mutia in Barangay Calindagan, Dumaguete, who died of multiple gunshot wounds at the emergency room of the Holy Child Hospital.

His companion, Ryan Dave Amores of Purok Dapdap in Brgy. Bagacay, also of the city, is in critical condition at the same hospital, police reports said.

Relief goods given

Around 5,000 residents of Bayawan City and Sta. Catalina and Basay towns in southern Negros Oriental received relief goods from Dumaguete City, through its Social Welfare and Development Office recently.

SWDO officer-in-charge Carola Alquero and councilors Franklin Esmeña and Dan Leon led the team from the city government during the distribution of the relief aid Friday and Saturday for families and individuals displaced by the massive flooding, that had claimed six lives in October.

The donation was received by Sta. Catalina Mayor Nathaniel Electona, Vice Mayor Ruben Melodia and Sangguniang Bayan members Ryan Monte de Ramos, Dodong Abrasaldo, Ruben Tag-at, Joji Napigkit, Nilo Teves and Filemon Ibale.
