The Philippine contingent to the 27th Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar claimed its first silver medal yesterday in wushu then followed it up with two gold medals in wushu sanshou, courtesy of Jessie Aligaga and Denbert Arcita, reports from the wires said.

Aligaga claimed the gold by outclassing Dasmantua Simbolon of Indonesia while Arcita bested Phithak Paorkrathok of Thailand, the report said.

Two more Filipino wushu athletes, Evita Zamora and Divine Wally, advanced to the final round but eventually yielded to their opponents.

Evita Zamora bowed to Thoi Hoa Nguyen of Vietnam in the 48kg wushu sanshou, while Wally lost to another Vietnamese, Thih Chinh Nguyen, in the 48kg. division.

Another bronze medal for the Philippine wushu team was delivered by Francisco Solis in the 56kg category.

Meanwhile, reports from the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines said Nesthy Petecio of the women’s boxing team prevailed over Tasamalee of Thailand to advanced into the final round in the 57-kg.*
