‘No IRR for pay hike yet'

Negros Occidental Provincial Director, Ma. Victoria Mondragon of the Department of Labor and Employment, yesterday said they have not received the Implementing Rules and Regulations on the new P10 wage hike in Western Visayas yet.

Mondragon said they will assess if the employers are complying with the new wage order next month after they get the IRR.

The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board Region 6, chaired by DOLE Director Ponciano Ligutom, unanimously approved the wage increase on October 30.

Wage Order number 21 states that workers employed in non-agriculture, industrial and commercial establishments employing more than 10 workers will receive P287 while those employed in establishments employing 10 workers and below, will get P245.

Those in the agriculture sector will receive a minimum wage of P255 while those in non-plantation work will get P245.

Meanwhile, Mondragon clarified that the DOLE in the province strongly discourages its personnel from engaging in any form of solicitation when they are in the field and when they conduct inspections in establishments.

She said they have, in fact, temporarily suspended their routine inspections effective November 30 and will resume only in February after the holidays.

Mondragon added that if there are inspectors in the field, they are the ones tasked to validate the complaints that the DOLE received from workers.*Mara Katlheen Dela Minez
