Basecom swept the double round elimination round with an emphatic victory against Jast Enterprises, 87-53, and Royal Star Trading eliminated Sweet Crystal Sugar from contention with a 77-66 win in the Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade inc. 2nd Inter-Company Basketball Tournament at Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym in Bacolod City.
Semifinals will start today with Basecom earning a twice-to-beat advantage against Organic Solutions and No. 2 Royal Star going up against No. 3 Jast Enterprises for a knockout match. The winners will vie for the championship.
After engaging Jast Enterprises in several lead exchanges in the first seven minutes of the first quarter, Basecom started to hit their outside shots to post a 26-17 opening quarter lead.
Basecom did not give Jast a chance to catch up in the remaining three quarters as they totally outscored the latter to keep their record umblemished.
Luigi Coo paced Basecom with 22 points backstopped by Adonis Rosales with 17, RJ Iligan had 15, Leonard Kilayko scored 11, and Jubert Katalbas added 7 points.
Beejay Paredes led Jast with 12 points, Simon Tan scored 11, Tubby Villanueva with 10, and Jerky Ong had 6 points.
Needing a victory to qualify, Sweet Crystal started on the right track with a 29-20 opening quarter lead as the trio of Chico Coruña, Chingsan Su and Brent Chan conspired for 24 points.
Royal Star cut the deficit at the break, 40-38, as Jolly Castillo led the team's balanced offensive. In response, Eduardo Ng sunk three triples for Sweet Crystal.
It was downhill for Sweet in the second half as they can only score 26 points against the 39 points of Royal.
Berto Uy finished with 13 points for Royal Star, Castillo and Chris Lim tallied 12 points each, Chipeng Uy shot 11 points, Aldrian Tan scored 10, Livingstone Ang picked up 9, Mark Yu contributed 8, and JR Lacson with 6 points.
Ng had a game-high 15 points, Su and Chua hit 10 points each , Devin Villacruz dropped 9 points, and Daniel Lo had 7 points.*NAB
