After keeping their respective titles in long jump and 100m hurdles, Mary Anthony Diesto and Rocel Mae Pahilanga earned their second gold medals for the Negros Occidental High School (Area IX) contingent at the 2013 Palarong Panlalawigan (Provincial Meet) at the Panaad Park and Stadium yesterday.

Diesto reigned in triple jump as she registered 11.80m to let Ailyn Tumbali of Area IV picked up the silver with her 10.88m mark. Jessa Paunellan of Area III settled for the bronze with 10.54m.

It was a close contest for Pahilanga in the 400m hurdles as she finished the event with a time of 1:09.50 to edge by a hairline margin Kim Cyra Pedriña of Area III, who clocked 1:09.56. Bernalyn Bejoy of Area VII (Bacolod City) settled for the bronze at 1:11.80.

Sinag Pilipinas posts 2nd win

NAY PYI TAW, Myanmar - The Philippine National Men's basketball team dubbed as "Sinag Pilipinas" cruised to their second straight win after manhandling Cambodia, 107-57, in the 27th Southeast Asian Games men's basketball at Zeya-thiri Stadium yesterday.

Mark Belo was the Philippines' top scorer with 17 points while Bobby Ray Parks finished with a double- double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The Filipinos banked on their fiery start as they immediately raced to a 25-16 lead at the end of the opening period.

Basecom stays unbeaten in
Inter-Company cagefest

Basecom swept the double round elimination round with an emphatic victory against Jast Enterprises, 87-53, and Royal Star Trading eliminated Sweet Crystal Sugar from contention with a 77-66 win in the Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade inc. 2nd Inter-Company Basketball Tournament at Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym in Bacolod City.

Semifinals will start today with Basecom earning a twice-to-beat advantage against Organic Solutions and No. 2 Royal Star going up against No. 3 Jast Enterprises for a knockout match. The winners will vie for the championship.

After engaging Jast Enterprises in several lead exchanges in the first seven minutes of the first quarter, Basecom started to hit their outside shots to post a 26-17 opening quarter lead.
