Budget has 80%
chance of passing
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Negros Occidental Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson yesterday said there is an 80 percent chance that the P2.1 billion 2014 provincial government budget will be approved by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan this afternoon.

He said the approval will depend on the outcome of an SP Committee on Budget and Finance hearing this morning, to which all the SP members were invited.

I f every question is answered and everybody is happy, there is a chance we can pass it, he said.

Last year, the approval of the 2013 budget, that was supposed to be approved before 2012 ended, dragged on until after the May 2013 elections.

Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. said that if the SP approves the budget today, it would be very good.

The Committee on Budget and Finance report submitted to the SP last week said the proposed 2014 annual budget of Negros Occidental is P2,125,170,888, which includes P874,889,712 for the Economic Enterprise Development Department.

Under the proposed 2014 budget, total expenditures for personnel services will amount to P479,819,968, or 23 percent, while maintenance and other operating expenses will amount to P318,717,988, or 15 percent.

The 2014 Special Appropriation, which comprises 62 percent of the total General Fund Budget, amounts to P1,326,632,932, and includes the allotment for the 20 percent Provincial Development Fund.*CPG
