Department of Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala will lead the opening of the 16th National Dairy Congress Thursday at the Bacolod Pavillon Hotel and Restaurant, provincial veterinarian Renante Decena said yesterday.
Negros Occidental is hosting this year’s congress after the Dairy Confederation of the Philippines recognized the projects and developments of the province in the dairy and livestock sector, Decena said.
Alcala will be joined by assistant secretary for livestock Davinio Catbagan, United States Department of Agriculture Foreign Service counselor Philip Shull, New Zealand Ambassador Reuben Livermore, and 4th District Batangas Rep. Mark Mendoza, chairman of the House Committee on Agriculture and Food, Decena said.
About 500 delegates are expected to attend the congress and 40 booths have been set up for the expositions of local and national exhibitors, he said.
Decena said the event is also a venue for local dairy and livestock stakeholders, including farmers and beneficiaries, to showcase their products and establish good partnership with future customers.
He said it will also create new markets for local dairy producers and improve their skills and knowledge on dairy production.
The congress is being held in cooperation with the DairyCon and the Negros Federation of Dairy Cooperatives, he added.*LTG
