Negros LP, NPC
backing Team PNoy

The Liberal Party and Nationalist People’s Coalition in Negros Occidental remain united in supporting the Team PNoy senatorial candidates, Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) said yesterday.

Benitez, LP Negros Occidental chairman, gave the assurance as he reiterated that the LP-NPC partnership on the national level remains intact, too.

Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez Jr., NPC gubernatorial bet for Negros Occidental, yesterday said he is attending the Team PNoy rallies in northern Negros today on invitation of Benitez.

Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr., who heads the United Negros Alliance and is not aligned with any national party, said some of the Team PNoy candidates have asked to meet with him today. He said most of the senatorial candidates he will support in the May polls come from Team PNoy.

Benitez said while some NPC and LP bets may be slugging it out on the local level, they remain united on the national level.

He continues to support the congressional bid of Rep. Alejandro Mirasol of the LP in the fifth district of Negros Occidental, even if Alvarez is supporting the bid of Board Member Emilio Yulo III for the same post, Benitez added.

The Team PNoy will join the launching of the Mamayanang Liberal at the Bacolod Pavillon Convention Center at 9 a.m. today, and rallies at the Talisay Public Plaza with Mayor Eric Saratan (LP) at 10 a.m., the Silay Public Plaza with Mayor Jose Montelibano (LP) at 11 a.m., and in Victorias City with mayoral candidate Francis Frederick Palanca (LP), Benitez said.

At 5 p.m., they will join a rally at the Bacolod Public Plaza organized by Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia (NPC), he added.

Benitez said that, of the 12 Team PNoy senatorial candidates, those who have confirmed joining the rallies in Negros Occidental today are Juan Edgardo "Sonny" Angara (LDP), Ana Theresia "Risa" Hontiveros-Baraquel (Akbayan), Loren Legarda (NPC), Ma. Ana Consuelo "Jamby" Madrigal-Valade (LP), Ramon Magsaysay Jr. (LP), Aquilino Martin "Koko" Pimentel III (PDP-Laban), Antonio Trillanes IV (NP), and Cynthia Villar (NP).

Kimi Aquino will represent her husband, Paolo Benigno "Bam" Aquino IV (LP), and Brian Poe will represent his mother, Grace Poe (Independent).

Alan Peter Cayetano (NP) and Francis Escudero (Independent) have not confirmed whether they are coming.

Vice President Jejomar Binay’s United Nationalist Alliance yesterday dropped Escudero, Legarda, and Poe from its senatorial ticket.

Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco, UNA campaign manager, said the coalition was no longer obligated to include the three candidates in its slate.*CPG
