NFA told to buy palay
even in remote areas

Department of Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala has ordered the National Food Authority to intensify palay procurement and conduct it even in remote areas, a government press release said.

Alcala said that the NFA needs to be aggressive in terms of implementing their palay procurement program so that farmers could be assisted.

He also said that the NFA has to reach the farmers even in distant places and bring their program there.

The DA secretary said this, noting the fact that farmers in far places are being taken advantage of by unscrupulous businessmen who only offer measly amount for their produce because of their inaccessibility and only those near town centers could command better price for their palay.

He also asked the public to report employees of the DA or its attached agencies like the NFA who are remiss in their duties and responsibilities so proper action could be instituted against them, the press release said.*
