Attempted robbery, slay try
charges eyed versus 2 men
Attempted robbery with frustrated homicide charges will be filed against two of the three suspects, who tried to rob a woman and stab her boyfriend at Lacson Street, Bacolod City, Monday, city police officer-in-charge, Senior Supt. Edgardo Ordaniel, said yesterday.
To be charged are David Gumanoy, 35, of Danao town, Bohol province, and Jason Mahilum, 29, of Brgy. Malanog, Calatrava town, Negros Occidental, Ordaniel said.
Gumanoy was arrested by Station 2 policemen after midnight yesterday on complaints that he was creating alarm and scandal at the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corporation Port. Seized from him was a pin gun with a bullet, police records show.
Mahilum was nabbed at about 5 a.m. Monday for hijacking the truck of Samuel Alegria, 50, of Siaton town, Negros Oriental.
Case investigator, Senior Police Officer 1 Dante Victor Escorpion, said that, based on their investigation, Gumanoy and Mahilum were the ones who tried to rob Joy Mabaquiao, 27, and stabbed her boyfriend, Raymund Ballayo, 25, in front of the DYHB compound at about 3 a.m. Monday.
The couple, both of Purok Saylan, Brgy. 4, Bacolod, told the police they were walking at Lacson Street, when three men on a motorcycle stopped near them and one of them held her up at knifepoint, but failed to get anything, because Ballayo fought back, Escorpion said.
One of the suspects stabbed Ballayo on the chest and then fled on the motorcycle, he also said.
Ballayo, who is still confined at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, positively identified Mahilum and Gumanoy as the ones who attacked him and his girlfriend.
Ordaniel is inviting other robbery victims to visit Police Station 2 and identify the suspects so more charges can be filed against them.
Ordaniel also reported that the suspected robber, who was shot by a policeman after he and his companion fought back on February 1, died in a hospital in Bacolod City Monday.
Police Officer 1 Ryan Lumogdang was on his way home when he saw the suspect
Pacquito Ruiz, 26, of Calong-Calong, Brgy. Singcang-Airport, Bacolod, and his unidentified companion robbing Korean national Seo Jihyun.
Lumogdang introduced himself as a cop but the suspects fired at him, and this prompted him to shoot back and hit Ruiz in the stomach.
Ruiz was brought to the CLMMRH while his companion managed to escape with the Korean's cellular phone valued at P25,000.
Ordaniel said Lumogdang has no administrative liabilities as he was only defending himself when his life was in danger in the performance of his duty.*APN
