6-peat for Baby Falcons in

Steven Pura sizzled with 25 points to lead St. John’s Institute to a six-straight championship in the 10 and Under NOPSCEAA Basketball against the University of St. La Salle Integrated School, 60-52, last Sunday at the West Negros University Gym.

Trailing behind the Baby Stingers in the first quarter, 12-11, the SJI Baby Falcons bounced back in the second quarter as Pura and Aceford Chua scored four points each for a 27-22 halftime lead.

The La Sallians grabbed the lead at 35-34 in the third quarter but Pura and Luciano conspired for a 6-0 closing quarter run to make sure that the lead stays with SJI at 40-35.

Ace Baldevarona scored 12 points for the Baby Stingers in the fourth canto but USLS-IS had no answer to the duo of Pura and Andrei Lechoncito who made 11 and 8 points, respectively.

Backstopping Pura were Lechoncito with 12 points, Luciano 6, Chua, JF QUinto and Aman Arceo with 4 points each, Scott Albayda, Ken Ong with 2 points each, and Joshua Baldonado with 1 point.

Baldevarona paced USLS-IS with 20 points, Castro shot 13 points, Matthew Benedicto made 11 points, John Remollo had 4 points, and Cris Año with 3 points.

In the battle for third place, Bacolod Tay Tung High School prevailed over Tangub Christian Academy.*
