Negros athletes retain
overall WVRAA title

Riding high on the consistent performance from the girls’ team, Negros Occidental retained the overall championship in the 2013 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet that ended yesterday in Roxas City, Capiz.

Negros accumulated 412 points in the elementary competition while Iloilo posted 395 points in the final tally. In secondary level, Negros registered a total of 469.5 points while Iloilo finished with 435 points.

The Negrenses managed to keep the overall championship despite the loss in both elementary and secondary boys’ basketball, football, and volleyball.

Foodman, Fox SHox
win in TKP Class B

Foodman used a first quarter blast to trounce Dynamic Metals, 89-80, while Fox SHox notched its first victory at the expense of La Filipina Trading, 64-62, in Class B of the 13th Tan Kek Pin Memorial Basketball Cup at Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.

Foodman started strong in the first quarter with Arvin Gustilo and Ralph Richard Tan scoring three triples each for a 30-14 advantage.

Chibon Uy scored 14 points for Dynamic Metals to cut the deficit to 48-35 at the break as Peter Galon hit seven points for Foodman.

6-peat for Baby Falcons in

Steven Pura sizzled with 25 points to lead St. John’s Institute to a six-straight championship in the 10 and Under NOPSCEAA Basketball against the University of St. La Salle Integrated School, 60-52, last Sunday at the West Negros University Gym.

Trailing behind the Baby Stingers in the first quarter, 12-11, the SJI Baby Falcons bounced back in the second quarter as Pura and Aceford Chua scored four points each for a 27-22 halftime lead.

The La Sallians grabbed the lead at 35-34 in the third quarter but Pura and Luciano conspired for a 6-0 closing quarter run to make sure that the lead stays with SJI at 40-35.
