Himamaylan City athletes captured gold, silver, and bronze medals to boost the overall medal tally of Negros Occidental in the 2013 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet that ended Friday in Roxas City, Capiz.
Young sprinter Arnel Genega made his mark in the competition by winning the gold in 200-meter dash, and bronze in 100-meter and long jump. He was also part of the Negros quartet that won the sliver in 4x100m, and 4x400m relay events.
Another Himamaylan athlete, Justin Artesano gifted the Negros squad with a silver in 110 hurdles and a bronze in high jump. He was Genega’s teammage in the 4x100, 4x400 relay events that earned the bronze, along with townmate Lester Pillada.
In secondary competition, Mark Montinola carried Himamaylan’s banner in boxing with a golden performance, while lady thrower Luz Delfin plucked the silver in shot put.
