BAHA calendars forum
on ‘plastics’ regulation

A forum on oxo-biodegradable plastic bags organized by the Bacolod Anti-Baha Alliance will be held at Balay Kalinungan of the University of St. La Salle in Bacolod City at 9 a.m. Saturday, Alan Gensoli of BAHA said.

The forum is in line with the implementation of City Ordinance 231 that provides for the regulation of the use of plastic bags in Bacolod.

Gensoli said Noli Jimenez of First Colours Inc., and a manufacturer of the additive biomate will be the guest speaker of the forum.

He said that since Bacolod is implementing C.O. 231, oxo-biodegradable bags had proliferated in malls, department stores, and supermarkets.

However, Gensoli also said that despite the strict implementation, questions continue to hound the product, especially on the biodegradability and garbage collection processes.

“Before we accept oxo-biodegradable plastic bags as the solution to our solid waste management problem, let us make sure that all our concerns are addressed,” Gensoli said.*LTG
