3 nabbed for
death of tanod
The prime suspect in the fatal stabbing of a tanod of Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City Saturday night, was arrested at the house of his relative in Cauayan town, Negros Occidental, at about 9:15 p.m. Tuesday.
Bacolod City Police Director, Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, identified the suspect as Erick Gallentes, 19, of Purok Paglaum in Brgy. Mansilingan.
A P10,000 reward had been offered by Police Station 7 and Brgy. Mansilingan officials for information on the whereabouts of Gallentes, and this led to his immediate arrest, Station 7 commander, Chief Insp. Levy Pangue, said.
In an interview with ABS-CBN, Gallentes admitted that he was under the influence of alcoholic liquor when he killed tanod Edgardo Dizon, 58, of Purok Guanzon, Mansilingan. He said he was egged on by his neighbors, identified as Michael Florentino, 19, and Raul Trasca, 18, both of Purok Paglaum, who were with him during the incident.
Florentino and Trasca were arrested at their houses, in a follow-up operation at about 7 a.m. yesterday, Pangue added.
Investigation showed that Dizon was coming out of the Home for the Blind in Purok Paglaum at about 11 p.m. Saturday when Gallentes blocked his way, stabbed him without provocation, and fled with Trasca and Florentino.
Dizon, who sustained multiple stab wounds, was declared dead on arrival at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.
The police had ruled out robbery for the stabbing, as Dizon’s things were not stolen, but believe the manner in which he was killed was treacherous, so murder charges will be filed by the police against the suspects before the Bacolod City Prosecutor’s Office today.*
