USLS spikers get ready for
beach volley tourney

After dominating school-based tournaments last year, the University of St. La Salle men’s volleyball team is gearing up for corporate and government-sponsored competition set next month.

Negros Occidental Vollyeball Association president Roger Banzuela said the USLS men spikers Roelene Inaudito and Kerwin Reje will be joining the Nestea Beach Volleyball Visayas elimination, where they ruled last year.

Banzuela said USLS will still have to decide whether they will field a team in the women’s category.

Caligdong among
TOYM awardees

MANILA – Philippine men’s football prominent member Ilonggo Emelio “Chieffy” Caligdong received a citation from President Benigno Aquino III yesterday as one of The Outstanding Young Men of 2012.

Aquino honored Caligdong and six other individuals in ceremonies held at Malacañang.

The TOYM is the Philippines’ most prestigious awards search for young men and women between the ages of 18 to 40 whose selfless dedication to their profession or vocation has resulted in significant contributions to the welfare of their countrymen as well as to the advancement of their fields of endeavor.

Texters win Game 1
in PBA final series

Talk ‘N Text built an early cushion and then weathered a late rally en route to scoring an 87-81 over Rain or Shine in Game 1 of the PBA Philippine Cup Finals at the Smart Araneta Coliseum last night.

The Tropang Texters, who led from start to finish, are now just three wins away from a third straight all-Filipino title and permanent ownership of the Jun Bernardino Trophy.

Lacking the energy at the start, the Elasto Painters allowed the two-time defending champions to seize the upperhand early. TNT went up 33-15 in the second period and was in cruise control for most of the way.
