Army nabs 1 for
violating poll gun ban

Army soldiers arrested a man in Purok Paho, Brgy. Kanlandog, Murcia, Negros Occidental, Sunday, for violation of the Comelec gun ban.

The arrested suspect, identified as Marjun Gallano, 23, was apprehended with a homemade .38 caliber revolver with six live ammunition in his possession by a team of 12 th Infantry Battalion soldiers led by TSgt. Rolando de los Reyes.

Gallano was turned over to the Murcia Police Station, where he is now in jail, and the filing of charges for violation of the Comelec gun ban is being readied against him.

On Sunday, the police, assisted by Army personnel, started implementing checkpoints in Negros Occidental to enforce the gun ban as the election period for the May 13 polls had started.

Policemen were reminded to keep the locations of their checkpoints random to prevent criminals and troublemakers from circumventing them.

The Police Regional Office 6 also reiterated that the police should not forget proper procedures, including proper lighting and signages, and the use of properly marked vehicles, while conducting checkpoints, as well as to be friendly.*GPB
