Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia said yesterday that the replacement of his brother Andres “Andy” Leonardia, as a candidate for councilor in the Nationalist People's Coalition-Grupo Progreso line up has not yet been taken up by his family.
He, however, said a private gathering would be held after a holy mass for Andy Leonardia yesterday, the ninth day since he passed away.
Mayor Leonardia said the family has not discussed the subject yet but, according to the Commission on Elections, anyone who carries the surname Leonardia is permissible as a replacement and there is no deadline set.
Although none of the children of Andy Leonardia have shown interest in politics, they are all open to whatever the collective decision of the family will be, he added.
The Mayor said the Grupo Progreso is going to run its campaign on the basis of a full slate and will definitely endorse and support only those who are officially their candidates.
When asked about talks that his brother Prospero is being eyed as a replacement for Andy Leonardia, the Mayor said, technically speaking, any Leonardia is a probability but that depends on who is talking because those who do have their own friends or groups whom they want to endorse. *
