Five earthquakes hit southern Negros Occidental Sunday night, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported yesterday.
The first tectonic quake at magnitude 3 was located at 09.54°North, 121.97°East - 054 km South 64°West of Sipalay City, and hit at 2:02:21 p.m. Sunday.
The second quake, located at 9.57°N, 121.99°E - 051 km S 66°W of Sipalay City, was measured at magnitude 5 and hit at 9:08:46 p.m. Sunday.
It was felt at Intensity III in Sipalay and Bago cities, Negros Occidental, and Intensity II in Iloilo City, PHIVOLCS said.
The third quake hit at 9:13:37 p.m. at 09.51°N, 122.00°E - 050 km S 65°W of Sipalay at magnitude 4.1.
The fourth quake at magnitude 3.5 hit at 09.48°N, 122.03°E - 052 km S 80°W of Barangay Asia in neighboring Hinoba-an town at 09:33:56 p.m. Sunday, PHIVOLCS said.
Hinobaan Mayor Teresa Bilbao said the earthquake was barely felt in her town and no damage was reported.
The last quake that hit on Sunday at 09:40:20 p.m. was located 09.53°N, 122.02°E - 050 km S 59°W of Sipalay at magnitude 3.7, PHIVOLCS said.
The Provincial Disaster Management Team said no damage was reported from the earthquakes in Sipalay City.*CPG
