Talk N Text sweeps
Rain or Shine

Talk ‘N Text started strong and finished even stronger for a 105-82 blowout victory over Rain or Shine to claim the 2013 PBA Philippine Cup last night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Tropang Texters scored only the fourth 4-0 sweep in PBA Finals history in bagging the PLDT franchise’s sixth conference title. They also get to keep the perpetual Jun Bernardino Trophy for winning the Philippine Cup three years in succession.

Ali Peek, Ranidel de Ocampo and Larry Fonacier joined hands in a blistering 27-11 start for Talk ‘N Text, which appeared headed for an easy night.

But Rain or Shine was not ready to hand the Texters the championship on a silver platter. The Elasto Painters were able to close in at 63-65 late in the third period.

TNT wouldn’t be denied the win, however. The Texters buried RoS under a barrage of three-pointers in the final canto that gave coach Norman Black’s wards a 21-point spread, 98-76, with four minutes remaining.

De Ocampo, who was named Papa John’s Finals MVP by the PBA Press Corps, led Talk ‘N Text with 19 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. Jayson Castro, named Best Player of the Conference before the start of Game 4, was held to six markers.*pba.com
