Advocacy vs. dengue
needs funding – PHO

The approval of the 2013 budget of the Negros Occidental provincial government is needed to fund an advocacy campaign against dengue, Dr. Ernell Tumimbang, Provincial Health Officer, said yesterday.

Dengue cases in Negros Occidental rose by 9 percent in 2012 over 2011, he said.

There were 1,219 dengue cases and 5 deaths in 2012, compared to 1,116 cases with 14 deaths in 2011, Tumimbang pointed out.

An advocacy campaign versus dengue is needed to prevent its increase, and funding for more IV fluids and blood for patients, he added.*CPG
