Young football talents from Bago City and Moises Padilla beat their respective opponents to share a 2-0 lead in Group A of the Negros First Under 13 Football Tournament at the Panaad Park and Stadium, Sunday.
The team from Bago Elementary School prevailed over St. Scholastica’s Academy, 7-1, to notch its second win after their 9-1 opening day victory over Mabini Elementary School, while Moises Padilla blanked Carlos Hilado Memorial State College, 8-0, to keep their record unblemished after a 6-2 triumph over SSA in last week’s curtain raiser.
Trailing the two teams from the south in Group A is Andres Bonifacio Elementary School who drew with Mabini ES, 3-3, while the latter seeks its first win in the tournament.
In Group B, Don Bosco Technical Institute encountered a tough resistance from Bata I ES and settled for a 1-1 draw after regulation, to share the top spot with University of St. La Salle in their bracket.
Both DBTI and USLS have a win and a draw after two outings, after DBTI ran over Montevista, 10-0, last week. USLS, meanwhile, turned back St. John Institute, 4-1, Sunday to register a win after starting their bid for the title with a draw against Bata.
SJI absorbed its first loss in the competition after their initial 3-2 victory over UNO-R on Jan. 20.
UNO-R secured their first win at the courtesy of Montevista, 2-1, who remains winless in Bracket B.
Organized by the Dynamic Football Club, the U13 tournament is the brainchild of Ricky Yanson, who along with brother Leo Rey are sustaining the growth and development of the sport in Negros Occidental.
Running the age group competition is the tournament committee headed by Andrew Infante with Dennis Estaniel, Ronald Treyes, Roberto Garde, and Augustine Rey Rivas.
Games are played on Sundays at the Panaad pitch with the 12 participating teams divided into two brackets.
Bago, ABES, Mabini ES, CHMSC, Moises Padilla, and SSA compose Bracket A, while DBTI, Bata, SJI, USLS, Montevista, and UNO-R are grouped in Bracket B.*NAB
