Cryptic code being
deciphered: C.O.P

The Dumaguete City Police is trying to decode a cryptic message found Saturday near the crime scene where an eight-year old girl was murdered last week in Barangay Bajumpandan, Dumaguete City.

Supt. James Goforth, chief of the Dumaguete Police, said yesterday that it is still unclear to investigators who the coded message was intended for and who wrote it.

But he said he believes it is linked to the death of the grade III pupil, who was raped and killed last week, and whose body was found in a sugarcane field near her home.

Goforth said unverified information reaching him shows the cryptic code reportedly originated from a cult group in Siaton town. The message is believed to be some kind of a “ritual to haunt” the perpetrator(s), he added.

Goforth said the police is doing extensive investigation to find the suspect. He said they found a magazine with blood stains and covered with mud in another part of the sugarcane field where the girl’s body was found.

Ten policemen did a re-enactment of the crime, witnessed by Goforth and Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria, and scoured the area for additional evidences yesterday.

Goforth said a classmate of the girl’s older sibling had seen her at around 5 a.m. Tuesday while she was on her way home, and this confirmed the statement of the elderly woman who told investigators earlier that she had also seen the victim.

The girl’s parents started their search for her Tuesday night when she failed to return home. Her body, with her throat slashed, was found Wednesday morning.*JFP
