9 Negrense paddlers to see action
in Southeast Asian Junior tourney

Nine players from Lopue’s Table Tennis Association will be seeing action in the Southeast Asian Junior Table Tennis Championships scheduled on July 12 to 16 in Harrison Plaza, Manila, LOPTTA president Leonito “Diotay” Lopue said.

The nine players include current junior No. 1 John Paul Gubaton, No. 5 Joshua Castro, Edmund Garganian Jr., and Francis Garganian for the boys’ team, and current No. 1 junior Emy Rose Dael, No. 2 Rose Jean Fadol, reigning Palarong Pambansa champions Shamiela Pineda, Beverly Paulma and Ann Gella Borbon for the girls’ team.

In a press release, Lopue said the inclusion of the nine LOPTTA players in the Philippine team lineup was relayed to him by Table Tennis Association of the Philippines president Ting Ledesma.

DLSU wins 1st round
vs. Ateneo in UAAP

The De la Salle University Green Archers beat archrival Ateneo De Manila University Blue Eagles, 82-73, in the first round match-up of the ongoing UAAP Season 76 seniors basketball at Mall Of Asia Arena in Pasay City yesterday.

The Green Archers outscored the defending champions, in the third quarter to secure a three-point lead going into the fourth quarter. The Blue Eagles were playing minus the services of star player Kieffer Ravena.

In the payoff period, both teams traded shots but the Archers were unstoppable as they rode high on the spectacular performance from Arnold Van Opstal, 2012 UAAP rookie of the year Jeron Teng, Almond Vosotross and Negrense Luigi Dela Paz.

Iloilo Pros beats
YBAC in friendly

The visiting Pros Basketball Teams from Iloilo prevailed over host Your Basketball Athletic Club in both the 50-Up and 50-below divisions during their friendly games over the weekend at the West Negros University gym, a press release from YBAC said.

In the 50-Up division, YBAC displayed a commanding performance in the early minutes of the game with a close 26-23 run in the first quarter, but Iloilo caught up in the second quarter for a 59-56 lead.

The head-to-head match-up continued in the fourth quarter until the vising Iloilo squad pulled away with a 16-8 blast in the final stages of the game, the press release said.
