Bacoleño jins shine in
reg’l taekwondo tilt

Young taekwondo jins from clubs in Bacolod City displayed their outstanding form and won medals in the 2013 Regional Inter-School Taekwondo Championships held July 13 in Iloilo City

Ella De las Alas from St. John’s Institute topped the group 1 novice girls’ sparring event, while Francisco Entierro of Asuncion Lizares Elementary School booked the gold in advance cadet boys’ finweight division.

They are the protegees of coach Joem Mercurio and Earl Enerlan of Taekwondo Academy, who won a couple of gold medals in the sparring event and two more from the poomsae event.

Biado bests compatriots in
Hard Times Open

MANILA- Filipino pool star Carlo Biado swatted away colleague Alex Pagulayan's challenge in the Hard Times 10-Ball Open Championship, 11-1, at Crooks and Castle in Bellflower, Los Angeles, California yesterday.

The Filipinos fashioned out a 1-2-3 finish with Dennis Orcollo placing third in the tournament.

“I believe that Carlo (Biado) stands a good chance of becoming a world champion,” said his manager, sportsman/businessman Ceferino "Perry" Mariano, also the, head of Bugsy International Promotions.

Volcanoes aiming
for ’14 Asiad stint

MANILA - Philippine rugby football is not yet ready to become a world contender but its representatives - the Philippine Volcanoes are proud to be the third best in Asia behind Japan and Hong Kong in Rugby Sevens or seven-a-side.

In fact, Philippine Rugby Football Union general manager Matt Cullen told the  PSA forum yesterday that the Volcanoes' schedule will be full with a series of international stints, including Kuala Lumpur on August 31 to September 1, Thailand on September 21 to 22, Mumbai on October 12 and 13 and Singapore on November 2 to 3.
