IN LA CASTELLANA
‘Suicide’ of teenager probed

Police probers are still puzzled by the reported suicide of a teenager, who allegedly hanged herself at her residence in Brgy. Robles, La Castellana, Negros Occidental, Sunday.

Senior Inspector Romeo Vargas, La Castellana police chief, yesterday said the 15-year-old female victim, whose identity is being withheld, was declared dead on arrival at the La Castellana Municipal Health Clinic.

A 13-year-old male, the cousin of the victim, is now being investigated by the La Castellana police for her death.

Vargas said the victim was found hanging from a belt at her home, by their neighbors, Ariane Joy Datong and Marie Rose Amar.

Investigations by the La Castellana police showed that the victim, a third year high school student, and her cousin, also a minor, had an intimate relationship.

Vargas also said that two hours before her body was found, the minor had confessed to having a sexual intercourse with her cousin.

Results of an autopsy conducted by Dr. Nenita Sol, La Castellana Municipal Health officer, showed a fresh laceration in the genital area of the victim.

The minor also confessed that it was the second time that he and the victim had engaged in sexual acts, Vargas added.

Police investigations also showed that the mother and father of the victim frequently quarreled, and that she was always berated by her parents.

Vargas said they will refer the minor to the Municipal Social Welfare Development Office, while further investigations of the incident will be made.*GPB

Man facing raps for
rape of cousin

A man who allegedly raped his 16-year-old cousin in Victorias City, Negros Occidental, will be charged today, before the City Prosecutor’s Office, its police chief, Supt. Santiago Rapiz, said yesterday.

Charges for violation of Republic Act 8353, or the Anti-Rape Law of 1997, in relation to RA 7610, or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act, will be filed against the suspect, whose name was withheld, Rapiz said.

Investigations showed that the family of the victim was going home after attending a benefit dance Sunday. However the motorcycle for hire, or “habal-habal” was already full, so they left the victim with her cousin to wait for another one.

A few minutes later, the suspect, who was under the influence of liquor, grabbed the victim, dragged her to the sugar field and raped her, investigations showed.

Rapiz said, the mother of the victim, whose name was not disclosed, noticed the next morning that the victim could not stop crying in her room. When asked what had happened, she gave the details and they asked for help from the police for the arrest of the suspect, he said.

The charges will be filed regularly as the suspect had been released yesterday after the reglamentary period had lapsed, Rapiz added.*SGG
