98 qualify as ARBs
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

Ninety-eight farm workers of Brgy. Palayog in Hinigaran town, Negros Occidental, qualified as Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries, Municipal Agrarian Reform Officer Roseve Miralles, said yesterday.

Miralles said the farm workers can now apply to purchase a parcel of land owned by Juan Isasi covering lot number 1608-B with a total area of 161.0979 hectares.

She said the farmers may receive their certificate of land ownership before the end of 2013.

The new ARBs took their oath before Municipal Trial Circuit Court Judge Rolando Balgos yesterday and pledged to pay land taxes and amortization on the property, computed in accordance with prevailing and pertinent provisions of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Law and its rules and regulations.

They also vowed to acknowledge and confirm that a lien by way of mortgage in favor of Land Bank of the Philippines shall secure their obligation after LBP undertakes to finance the acquisition of the subject farm lots including interest and penalties if any.

Miralles said that it took them sometime before they finished  the acquisition of the land because DAR still needed to look for the four children of Isase as three of them were already out of the country.

Noel Narciso, member of the Palayog Farm Workers Association Board of Director, said they started the processing for the acquisition of the land since 1998.

Narciso said that they are happy to be finally qualified as Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries because this would help them alleviate their families from poverty.

He said that hey fought a long battle before they were qualified and some of their members are already deceased.*APN
