A simultaneous consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary was held at the San Sebastian Cathedral in Bacolod City and all cathedrals and churches in the Philippines Saturday as part of the Nine Year Preparation for the Fifth Centenary of the Christianization of the country in 2021.
Bishop Vicente Navarra, who officiated at the concelebrated mass at 10 a.m., said in his homily that the consecration together with all the churches in the Philippines, aims to praise and adore God, uniting as one, with devotion close to Mary, who is the mother of God.
He also said that, according to Pope Francis, prayer should first and foremost be praising and adoring God, second only for petitions and thanksgiving.
“Together with Mary and her immaculate heart, we are offering ourselves to God, we are offering who we are”, Navarra said.
The Philippines is known as the “pueblo amante de Maria,” or a people in love with Maria, and the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines had agreed to do the consecration rites.*SGG
