Extend use of old receipts

Businessmen in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental yesterday appealed to the Bureau of Internal Revenue to extend until December 31 the use of old receipts.

Under its RR No. 18-2012, BIR orders taxpayers and businesses to apply for the printing of new receipts supposedly on April 30, or 60 days before the initial deadline of using the old receipts, and failure to do so will mean a P1,000 penalty.

However, BIR Commissioner Kim Henares on Tuesday signed Revenue Memorandum Order 44-2013, extending the deadline for the use of old receipts until August 30, to give time for businesses to have their new receipts printed by BIR-accredited printers.

Henares approved the extension on the appeal of businesses and taxpayers and the rising concerns over the capacity of companies accredited by the BIR to accommodate large volumes for printing of receipts.

Wee Kiat Tan, executive vice president of the Bacolod Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said they are happy about the extension of the use of old receipts but added that the time given is still not enough.

Tan said while it is good for the printing business, it is too costly for other businessmen since most of them had their receipts printed as early as January.

Like Tan, Frank Carbon, president of the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry, also said they welcome the extension given by BIR for the use of old receipt but it is still short.

Carbon said they hope the BIR will extend the use of the old receipts to the end of the year so they can save on expenses.*APN
