V'belles spank Myanmar
for first win in Vietnam

MANILA - The POC-PSC Sports V-Belles Team late Saturday evening starred towering sisters Dindin and Jaja Santiago of National University who scored 16 and 12 hits, respectively, for the Filipinas' first victory at the Asian Southeastern Zone Women's Volleyball qualifier in Quang Tri, Vietnam.

The Philipine team won in its second outing versus Myanmar, 20-25,25-14, 25-10,25-17 after a painful first day 9-25,11-25, 1825 loss to host Vietnam last Friday.

The Santiago sisters were ably backed up by Friday's top hitter, Alyssa Valdez of Ateneo with booming 15 points, while La Salle-Dasmarinas'Iari Yongco had 10 hits.

The team, composed of standouts from different schools busjournt dominated by stars of recent V-League champions National University had to undergo adjustments after playing together' for only a week before their first international sojourn.

Coached by veteran handler Roger Gorayev,the Smart Communications and Accel supported Filipinas also got enough help from UST's Maika Ortiz and Rhea Dimaculangan, NU's Rubie de Leon and Suzanne Roces, Myla Pablo,Jennylyn Reyes, Adamson's, Adamson’s Pau Soriano and Jheck Dionela of Perpetual Help.

Meantime, team manager Boy Liao said in an email that the Filipina spikers are grateful for the experience but they would be happier if they won at least second place in the four-country competition which will send the champion to the zonal qualifier.*PNA
