Take care of my
baby, mayor asks

BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

“Please take care of my baby”.

That was what Bacolod Congressman-elect and Mayor Evelio Leonardia said yesterday when asked about his feelings on leaving the Bacolod City Government Center that he considers the diamond in the ring of the city’s accomplishments during his administration.

“To whoever may come here, and work here, now and in the future, I appeal to them: Please take care of my baby”, he said.

This is the building that has made a workplace that is more conducive for our employees, and has also made government services more accessible to the people, Leonardia said. It has become a one-stop-shop, compared to the eight locations city workers were operating from before it was built.

He also said the Government Center has become a symbol of investors’ confidence. As a symbol of the progress of Bacolod, it can generate such confidence, and, in fact, in the contest for the Most Business Friendly City in the Philippines, its presentation was among the factors that made our city win, he added.

He also said that the Government Center has become a tourist attraction for Bacolod because both local and foreign visitors go there to take photographs and have their pictures taken, and this is true, especially of Bacolod and Negros Occidental balikbayans.

Leonardia also recalled the initial problems they went through before the building was constructed, which were all hurdled, by the grace of God and the prayers of the people.

Now, he said, the people have accepted it because they love it and are proud of it. I think any public official who will have to use it and work in it will have no choice but to take care of it. And I know Bacoleños will see to it that their new centerpiece will always be maintained as it is now,” he added.*CGS
