Women solidarity program set
About 1,000 advocates of gender equality and women empowerment are expected to attend a caravan and solidarity program on Friday in Bacolod City, led by the Provincial Council for Women-Negros Occidental and the Development Through Active Women Networking Foundation Inc., in line with the Women’s Day celebration.
Women’s right advocate Rina Jimenez-David, national chair of PILIPINA and Philippine Daily Inquirer columnist, has been invited as guest speaker in the solidarity program at the Bacolod Arts, Youth and Sports Center.
Silay Councilor Marie June Pavillar-Castro said David will discuss the Women’s Month theme of “Kababaihan: Gabay sa Pagtahak sa Tuwid na Daan”.
Castro, program officer of DAWN Foundation, and chair of both the PCW-Negros Occidental and PILIPINA-Bacolod, said they have invited Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia and Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. to also give solidarity messages.
The program will feature a mini-bazaar and inter-LGU contests in binalaybay, composo, and on-the-spot poster and slogan making contests.
The celebration will be attended by officers and members of the Local Women’s Councils from the cities and towns of the province; elected women leaders of different LGUs and Bacolod-based women civic clubs and organizations, and GAD advocates from the 61 barangays of Bacolod.
The caravan will assemble at 8 a.m. on March 8.*GPB
