St. Scholastica’s Academy blanked University of St. La Salle-IS, 2-0, and Moises Padilla won in extra time, 4-2, against Mabini Elementary School in the semifinals to arrange a titular showdown in the Negros First Under 13 Football Tournament this Sunday at the Panaad pitch in Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City.
SSA booked the win with a 15th minute marker from Tom Alcala and a 43rd minute goal from Chrys Pahilanga.
In semifinals match between Mabini and Moises Padilla, the boys from Magallon started strong with two successive goals in the 21st and 22nd minute courtesy of Jim and Jan Rafaello Mendoza.
Not easily discouraged, Mabini fought back and found a hole in Moises Padilla’s defense in the 35th minute, allowing Johnsent Catoto to score the team’s first goal.
Catoto struck again in the 55th minute for the equalizer as the game ended in regution at 2-2, prompting tournament officials to rule for a 20-minute extension.
In the overtime, Jim and Jan Rafaello Mendoza remained a force for Moises Padilla. Jan scored in the 55th minute and Jim sealed the win for Moises Padilla in the 62nd minute.
The SSA boys and their opponents from Magallon will clash at 9:30 a.m. this Sunday to dispute the championship, while USLS-IS and Mabini will battle for third place at 8 a.m.*NAB
