Cop dismissed,
another suspended

Bacolod City Police officer-in-charge, Senior Supt. Edgardo Ordaniel, yesterday reported the dismissal of a policeman for grave misconduct and the suspension of another for serious neglect of duty.

Ordaniel said the dismissal of Police Officer 1 Bernardo Beneras is based on Special Order number 497 dated Feb. 14, 2013 and signed by Police Regional Office-6 Director Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz.

The dismissal of Beneras, who used to be assigned at Police Station 2, stemmed from the escape of an inmate identified as Rhodora Castillo, 40, of Brgy. Mambulac, Silay City, who was facing theft charges on Dec. 20, 2011, a police report said.

Castillo escaped from a detention holding area of police station 2 unnoticed when Beneras was the jailer on duty, the report added.

Meanwhile, the 60-day suspension of Police Officer 2 Wilson Go of Police Station 5 stemmed from his non-appearance twice at hearings of a drug case where he served as a witness.

Ordaniel stressed that policemen should already know by heart that missing court hearings is tantamount to gross violation because it is still part of their work.

He said that the policemen’s role should only end when the arrested suspects are already convicted

As to the custody of inmates, Ordaniel reminded the policemen that they should be immediately transferred to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology once the case has been filed and they fail to post bail, to prevent escapes.*APN
